Style Versus Fashion
To be stylish is to co-ordinate your clothes, make up, your whole appearance together with an upright proud demeanour . This does not happen overnight although one could argue that some people are more adept at co-ordination than others simply because they are interested in how they dress and it comes down to self-respect.
To be stylish is very much a case of caring about how you look. Once achieved, it is perennial. Women who have style, will have it for the rest of their lives. They are constantly on the lookout when buying clothes of what items of clothing could complement something they have already, be it matching a skirt with a top, or a jacket with a pair of trousers, or a scarf to enhance an outfit or a handbag which would update a suit already in their possession. There are no limits to the possibilities of how to build on an existing wardrobe.
Fashion by contrast, is something seasonal or annual. Each season, a different colour and line of clothing dominates fashion. These colours and styles re-surface again a few years down the line albeit slightly different. Since the year 2000, we have re-invented the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s styles and in the last century, the 20s and any decade that was a flourishing one. It is very much a case of commercial interest for the designers who decide on the colours and lines of clothing.
Take for instance the 5 inch heeled shoes that have been introduced around two years ago. They are very much a fashion accessory. Are they stylish? It is a matter of opinion. Once enough young women have ruined their feet wearing them, the shoe designers will introduce lower heels which will be another must-have to keep the business ticking over. It has been a cycle of this nature every since my youth.
There are advantages for Older Women, and Mature Women Fashion will not have to follow this trend at all as the high heels don\'t actually look that stylish. They are beautiful but far too high and look out of proportion anyway. However, the flat pumps have also had a comeback and ever more beautiful ones are produced too which is good news for the older generation.
This is a good thing for women of any age even though the focus is on the young. However, Mature Women should not give up following fashion altogether because quite often there are some nice new lines that have timeless pieces and these are perfectly acceptable for Mature Women.
For myself, the time has come where I only buy an item of clothing that is totally irresistible and if it then is a little more expensive then I don\'t have to feel guilty because the value of it outweighs the cost and it is sure to be worn and not left in the wardrobe indefinitely perhaps never even to be worn and unlike the rags that ended up in the back of the cupboard waiting to go to the Charity Shop.
So, in order to look stylish, it is a case of building outfits with accessories and then of course, carry them off with pride and confidence, showing that you respect yourself and the people around you. The next time you see a stylish woman observe how she has put her wardrobe together. Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/clothing-articles/style-versus-fashion-2101121.html About the Author
